creating lasting solutions in counselling
connecting clients with
their experiences
The solution approach to counselling is recognised as one of the most effective methods of assisting clients to resolve their problems and create their own individual solutions. It builds on the ground-breaking contributions of Milton Erickson, Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and Bill O'Hanlon.
Even after a client finds a solution that is effective, concerns remain - will they act on it; will it happen, will it last?
Problems often capture our attention and take over clients' experience, blinding them to their solutions, or even the possibility of a solution.
In this workshop we will explore simple and effective ways of connecting clients with the experience of their solutions, moving them past the idea, the hope, the wish of a resolution.
We will learn through lecture, demonstration and supervised practice the steps that will assist clients
to focus on useful experiences - past, present and future
to make richly textured connections with these experiences
to assist the client to absorb and own the experiences of their solutions
to learn how to shift their focus from problem to solution
so they can own their solutions and take them into their own lives outside the counselling setting.
Because the workshop will be practical and experiential, participants will be able to translate their learning into their clinical practice in a natural and effective manner.
