Diploma and Advanced Diploma of
Solution Oriented Hypnosis
simply learning a
natural approach to solutions in hypnosis
Background
This diploma offers more than just information and techniques. It was developed by Rob McNeilly and grounded in 25 years of teaching and learning including personally from Milton Erickson, Humberto Maturana, Julio Ollala and Rafael Eccheveria to name a few. It is a rare opportunity to have the ideas of such people distilled into one approach with Rob’s uniquely creative, playful and illuminating style. It was extended by Gabrielle's 10 years experience in General Practice with the inherent frustrations of the medical model that appear common to doctors, counsellors, psychologists and allied health workers alike. She was relieved to discover a different way. As a student of Rob’s she was impressed by the refreshing learning experience he offered that usefully allowed her to change how she observed and use what she saw to facilitate learning and change in a client. As a teachers of this approach Rob & Gabrielle share a passionate interest in the effectiveness of this way of learning for students and clients also.Overview
When Milton Erickson began working, inventing and experimenting with therapy in the 1930’s there was little to choose from in terms of different therapy styles. In the 1960's, there were about 60 different therapy models, and today there are more than 250!!!! It is humbling to note that despite the variety, virtually all of the research data finds roughly equivalent results for all models. And perhaps we only need to look at the world to see that that it is the similarities rather than differences between the models that account for the effectiveness of psychotherapy. The Solution Oriented Approach honours these similarities, acknowledges that many of the 250 have their roots in Erickson’s work and in a refreshing answer to today’s consumerism, attempts to simplify and unravel the confusion.
Lambert's research in 1992 and Wampole's in 2001 add statistical evidence supporting the core of Erickson’s work specifically and the Solution Oriented approach generally - the importance of
creating a trusting, legitimizing relationship,
observing and listening to the client and reconnecting them to their life outside therapy,
creating expectancy and
trusting in our own individual therapeutic creativity
to maximise our effectiveness.
This diploma offers a unique opportunity to learn the principles and applications of one of the most rapidly growing treatment models in contemporary psychotherapy. The scope of the program is comprehensive, and presents the essential elements in an elegantly accessible way and is open to practitioners of all levels of experience who are passionate about their work.
simple
Hypnosis has been understood as complex, special, even dangerous, requiring unique legal restrictions. It has been associated with magic, the devil, loss of control, and only relevant to susceptible individuals. In this programme we will explore simple, elegant and respectful ways of connecting clients with their own unique styles of experience.
learning
Traditionally learning has been based on theory and the property of a select few experts. By contrast, these diplomas have a minimum of theory and explanations, focusing instead on demonstrations and recurrent practice so that participants will have sufficient skills to begin to use their learning in their clinical practice immediately.a natural approach
Hypnosis has been assumed to be a special, different, even weird experience. Erickson spoke of the everyday trance as a natural experience that can be enhanced in a clinical situation. By utilising individual clients’ individual skills, overlooked skills can be disclosed, re-connected, and found to be readily available, leading to a fail-safe method will be made obvious and readily useable.solutions
Rather than problem solving, the solution approach draws on a client's innate resourcefulness, re-connects them with these resources, and because they come from the client, they can be easily accessible. Ericksonian hypnosis creates a wonderful context for a trusting therapeutic relationship, helping to restore self-trust in individual clients to allow this process to be realised.hypnosis
Traditional hypnosis relies on manualised scripts which are applied to clients in a "fit where it touches" approach, creating resistance and limited compliance. When we begin with the principle that hypnosis is an experience that involves focus of attention and absorption in that experience, this natural ability can be readily accessed by all clients and incorporated in any clinician’s practice. What you will learn
- The evolution of hypnosis throughout history and a contemporary understanding.
- A fail-safe method of assisting any client to experience hypnosis.
- Observational skills to track an individual client's hypnotic experience.
- Ways to create rapport and restore trust.
- Creating possibilities even in the most "resistant" or "chronic" situations.
- The creation of learning as a process towards solutions.
- The use of therapeutic metaphor.
- Become familiar with the classical hypnotic experiences of dissociation, age regression, etc.
- How to apply this approach to:
- anxiety, panic & depression
- post trauma
- childhood abuse
- pain management
- couples work
- family relations
- performance enhancement
- coaching
- any other clinical situation
In the advanced diploma this learning will be extended by
- reviewing the diploma experiences
- practicing advanced counselling approaches
- listening for solutions
- creating expectancy
- generating genuine trust
- shifting unhelpful beliefs
- individualising self care
Course Details
The diploma involves 14 workshop days over 8 months and is a prerequisite for the advanced diploma of 10 workshop days over 10 months. Each includes recorded lectures, demonstrations and a written text. Assignments, relevant to the actual clinical utilisation of the learning offer valuable opportunities for reflection and any diploma can be repeated free of charge at any time in the future. The emphasis is on live demonstrations and the opportunity for you to practice recurrently in pairs or triads. These diplomas value experiential learning over acquisition of information so that you will feel confident to incorporate these ideas into your work immediately.Accreditation
